I arrive at work, say hello to the team and make coffee. Working at a debt charity means I’ve really started to think about budgeting and where my money goes each month, so I’m trying to stop spending money at coffee shops!
I catch up with emails – yesterday I was out of the office at a partner event in London, so there’s lots to catch up on today. put together a summary of yesterday’s event to post on our Medium blog, to help us to keep the conversation with partners going after the event. We can also send this over to the partners who couldn’t make it, so that they’re kept in the loop. I put together some social media posts to thank attendees, which I send over to the Digital Content Team to work their magic on.
After finishing off the blogpost, I send it to colleagues in Charity Development for feedback. My role concentrates on the B2B side of marketing, so we work closely with the Charity Development team, who look after our relationships with partner organisations like banks, building societies, other charities and utility companies. Around 60% of our clients are referred by partners and they also contribute a lot of our funding through a model called Fair Share Contribution, so they’re really important stakeholders and it’s important we get our communications with them just right.

I have a call with colleagues in our London office to check in about new events banners we’re creating for the Policy team. I find out what they need and who the audience is, then write up a brief to send over to the design agency. The agency understands our brand well, but they’re not mind-readers, so I try to make sure they understand exactly what we want by making the brief as detailed as possible.
Although I’ve cut down on takeaway coffee, I still haven’t mastered the art of bringing my lunch every day. I pop out to grab a sandwich from Boots (at least I can get some Advantage points while I waste £3.50 on a meal deal) and have a walk around town to get some fresh air. The sandwich is soggy and disappointing - serves me right for not making my own.
The afternoon
UI start work on an email campaign to thank our event attendees and ask for their feedback. The event went well, but there’s always things we could do better, and it’s useful to get the attendees’ perspectives. When the email’s ready to go and has been checked by the Digital Content team, I schedule it for early tomorrow morning so it’s in partners inboxes when they get to their desks.

Tthere’s a meeting about the upcoming Christmas campaign – this year we’ll be looking at how the pressure to have a picture-perfect Christmas can lead to people taking out credit they can’t afford to pay back. We discuss the results of a public survey we ran about Christmas spending and debt - there are some interesting statistics which should make the campaign really powerful.
After the meeting I check my to do list and tick off what I’ve done today (so satisfying) and add some actions that have come up in the meeting, before heading home at 5pm via the supermarket to pick up some bits and bobs for the weekend.
