Rory Marshall - Video and Motion Graphics Designer
Alongside our in-house Studio Team, Rory produces videos, animations and photography that help the charity reach millions of people across social media, our website, the media, and even Parliament. So, with sound rolling, we mark his slate and get into character as Rory calls ACTION!
09:00
It’s time for my morning catch-up and script review. We have 15 different videos in production at the moment, so we spend time reviewing our work in progress, and prioritising upcoming project over a Teams call.
09:15
Today we’re starting production on an exciting recruitment video, explaining the different roles we offer, and highlighting the benefits of working at StepChange. It’s a busy two-day shoot with lots of locations and interviews to capture, so I spend time finalising our shot list and getting our scripts ready.
10.00
I head to our main office in Leeds City Centre to get set up. I’m joined by our Junior Video Producer, Brandon, who’s already busy preparing for today’s shoot and meeting our interviewees.
11.00
I head to my favourite place, our camera equipment cupboard. I check that the cameras are ready, and everything is in order. The charity are great at supporting our team so that we’re well-equipped to produce amazing videos.
13.00
ACTION! We start recording our interviews with three of our Debt Advisors. They have lots to say, and we capture some great moments on camera that we’re already excited to use.
14:30
That’s a wrap…we’ve got all the footage we need for today. There were no technical hiccups, apart from a bit of background noise picked up by the microphone from the traffic outside. But we’re not worried, this is something we can work on in post-production.
15.00
I’m back at my desk to offload the footage and start working on the editing. This is one of my favourite parts of the creative process. I fire up Adobe Premiere to start editing, After Effects to work on the titles and graphics, and Audition to mix the sound and fix the issues from earlier.
16.30
Now that I have a ‘rush’, which is a first draft of the interviews, I send these off for review. Our videos go through a rigorous sign-off that includes our Marketing and Compliance team. This helps us make sure that our videos are accurate, clear, and accessible for our diverse range of audiences.
17.00
What a busy day! With the interviews out for review, I start to think about our upcoming client story that we’re filming on-location in Scotland next week, as I cycle home.
